Rep. Mikie Sherrill selects Dale Caldwell as Lt. Governor candidate

Rep. Mikie Sherrill has picked Dale G. Caldwell, the president of a small university in Warren County, a Methodist pastor, and former school board member in New Brunswick with a long history of government service, as the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor. The 65-year-old Caldwell became the president of Centenary in 2023. The Hackettstown-based college, which has about 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students. (New Jersey Globe)

 

NRBP president Nixon elected to Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives board

President & CEO, Newark Regional Business Partnership (NRBP), Ferlanda Fox Nixon, has been elected to serve on the board of directors for ACCE, the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. ACCE is an Alexandria, Va.-based association of over 9,000 professionals who work for and with more than 1,300 chambers of commerce. Members of ACCE’s board of directors represent more than 50 organizations, including many of the world’s largest and most influential regional chambers of commerce. (BINJE)

 

10-year Treasury yield flat as investors assess U.S. economy, trade developments

The 10-year Treasury yield was relatively flat on Friday as investors weighed the slate of trade developments and economic data in the past week. After announcing a trade framework with Japan, U.S. President Donald Trump is now turning his attention to negotiations with the European Union. (CNBC)

 

Treasury Secretary details administration's plan to tackle China's economic imbalances

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that trade relations between the U.S. and China are stabilizing such that the Trump administration can turn some of its focus to broader economic issues with Beijing. Bessent was interviewed on FOX Business Network's "Kudlow" and said that while trade tensions with China ramped up significantly following the president's "Liberation Day" tariff announcement, they have since settled down to allow for a broader economic conversation with China. (Fox Business)

 

U.S. unemployment claims remain at historical low after falling for 6th straight week

The number of Americans filing for jobless aid fell for the sixth straight week, hitting the lowest level since mid-April. The Labor Department reported Thursday that jobless claims for the week ending July 19 fell by 4,000 to 217,000. That’s fewer than the 227,000 new applications analysts were expecting. Applications for unemployment aid are viewed as representative of layoffs. (PBS)

Giants, NBC 4 New York, Telemundo extend partnership, including first Spanish language Giants-Jets game broadcast

The New York Giants announced July 24 an extended partnership agreement with NBC 4 New York/WNBC and Telemundo 47/WNJU that includes the first Spanish-language preseason broadcast of the annual “MetLife Bowl” between the Giants and Jets on Aug. 16 at MetLife Stadium. (ROI-NJ)

Advancements in decarbonization and energy efficiency can help increase grid capacityN.J. Natural Gas is partnering with Philadelphia-based Carbon Reform on a simple and effective carbon reduction system pilot project that is up and running at its Lakewood facility. (BINJE)

JAG continues stretch across Monmouth County

JAG Physical Therapy continues its growth across Monmouth County with the addition of a new clinic in Wall and a relocated facility in Hazlet. Both announced July 21, the openings bring JAG’s Monmouth County office count to 12. (NJBIZ)
