Governor-elect Sherrill taps Aaron Binder as state treasurer
Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill named Aaron Binder as New Jersey’s next state treasurertoday. Binder has served as deputy treasurer since December 2021, helping manage the state budget and overseeing three Treasury departments. He previously was deputy executive director of the Assembly Majority Office, serving as a key fiscal adviser to the Assembly Budget Committee. Binder will face an immediate test, as Sherrill must present her first budget to the Legislature just over a month after taking office Jan. 20. (BINJE)
Shirley Emehelu is Sherrill's pick for state comptroller
Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill on Monday announced the nomination of Shirley Emehelu as New Jersey’s next state comptroller. Emehelu has served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey and the state Attorney General’s Office. The announcement follows Sherrill’s selections of Stephen Cha to lead the Department of Human Services and the retention of Jacquelyn Suárez as community affairs commissioner. Former NJ congressman Dick Zimmer dies at 81
Former U.S. Rep. Dick Zimmer, the New Jersey Republican who served three terms in Congress and was twice his party’s nominee for U.S. Senate in a long and storied political career, died Wednesday. He was 81. A self-described "fiscal hawk" and a sponsor of legislation that included Megan’s Law, the longtime Hunterdon County resident also spent a decade serving in the state Legislature before moving to the U.S. House of in the 1990s.
