NJ Transit CEO Kevin Corbett resigns to take university job
Kevin Corbett, NJ Transit’s president and CEO since the early days of Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration, announced Monday his resignation, effective Jan. 15, to take a university post. "In addition to giving me a chance to spend more time with my family, I have recently accepted a new opportunity with one of our state’s prestigious universities that will allow me to remain deeply connected to the transportation sector," Corbett wrote in a letter obtained by NJ Advance Media. New Jersey’s Andy Kim is named to the US Senate early
Andy Kim, a three-term congressmember, was appointed to the U.S. Senate Sunday. Kim, 42, takes office following the resignation of interim Sen. George Helmy, who had long said he would leave office once the results of the 2024 election were certified. He fills the seat vacated by Bob Menendez this summer following his federal conviction. Report: NJ's 2024 voter turnout is lowest in state history for a presidential election
It was billed as the most important election of our lives – a presidential battle to determine the future of our divided country. But in New Jersey, many voters responded with a shrug. About 4.3 million of N.J.’s 6.6 million registered voters cast ballots, or about 65% of those eligible to vote, according to the certified results. That’s the lowest turnout the state has ever seen in a presidential election year, an NJ Advance Media analysis found. The number is 2 percentage points lower than the previous mark set 12 years ago. Trump says he doesn’t plan to remove Fed chairman Jerome Powell
President-elect Donald Trump said in an interview that aired on Sunday that he has no plans to remove Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Appearing on NBC’s "Meet the Press with Kristen Welker," Trump was asked if he would try to replace Powell. "No, I don’t think so. I don’t see it," Trump said. "I think if I told him to, he would. But if I asked him to, he probably wouldn't. But if I told him to, he would." Welker followed by asking Trump if he had plans to ask Powell to resign. Trump responded, "No, I don't." The comments mark the first time since the election that Trump has publicly backed Powell. (CNN)
MetLife Stadium lands another soccer final: FIFA 2025 Club World Cup
MetLife Stadium – already selected to host the final of the FIFA 2026 World Cup – will be at the center of the global soccer universe in 2025, too. The stadium in East Rutherford was selected to host the semifinals and the final of the first FIFA Club World Cup, it was announced this weekend. In total, MetLife will host nine games of the 32-team tourney, including a quarterfinal match and five group-round matches between June 15 and July 13. (ROI-NJ)
