Report: Seasonal retail hiring could fall to lowest level since 2009, signaling trouble for holidays
Seasonal hiring in the retail industry is poised to fall to its lowest level since the 2009 recession, an early warning that the holiday shopping season could be softer than expected, job placement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported. Challenger is projecting retailers may add under 500,000 positions in the final three months of 2025, an 8% decline from a year ago. This time last year, retailers like Target, Macy’s, Burlington Stores, Aldi and 1-800-Flowers had already announced seasonal worker plans. So far this season, none of those companies have made seasonal worker announcements. (CNBC)

PSEG CEO Ralph LaRossa: 'Current market rules not capable of delivering the power NJ needs'
PSEG Chair and CEO Ralph LaRossa, in a public statement Tuesday about surging energy prices, said the current rules and regulations around energy generation and delivery aren't capable of providing the state what it needs – and New Jersey must take action. The PJM Interconnection, the grid operator for New Jersey, 12 other states and D.C., is governed by a board whose voting members include transmission line owners and independent power plant operators. States do not have a vote in the decision-making process, which is upsetting to governors in the region, many of which feel PJM is not attentive to their needs. (BINJE)
NJIT continues to climb the national rankings
Tuesday's announcement that New Jersey Institute of Technology has climbed to No. 80 in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best college rankings – its highest-ever placement – demonstrates how the school has raised its reputation. It follows high rankings from The Princeton Review (No. 27 nationally for best value and No. 1 in N.J. among public universities) and The Wall Street Journal (No. 26 nationally among universities for alumni salaries and No. 30 for social mobility).
