The Push – and the Need – for Businesses and Other Colleges To Participate in NJ’s Burgeoning AI Hub at Princeton University

The state’s well-chronicled history of innovation – along with Princeton University’s impressive connection to major advances in computer science – made N.J. and its premier university a logical place to create an East Coast AI Hub. But, at the first NJAI Summit on Thursday at Princeton, President Chris Eisgruber made clear that the school isn’t looking to go it alone. “My message, when I spoke to the other presidents of the colleges and universities here in New Jersey is, if this succeeds, it succeeds with all of us coming together,” he said. “We want this to be a place where people are able to come together.” That includes the business community. “There is an avalanche coming,” N.J. Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Bracken said. “We’re eager to hear more about it – so the New Jersey business community can take advantage of it.” (ROI-NJ)

US Retail Sales Rose in March for the Second Straight Month

Spending at U.S. retailers rose in March for the second consecutive month, underscoring the strength of the U.S. consumer fueled by a robust job market. Retail sales rose 0.7% in March from the prior month, a slower pace than February’s upwardly revised 0.9% gain, the Commerce Department reported Monday. That beat the 0.4% increase economists projected, according to a FactSet poll. Retail spending has increased in seven of the past 10 months through March. (CNN)
