Report: New Jersey PBS likely to go dark next summer
New Jersey PBS, which has long been supported by WNET in New York yet still struggled to find a financial model that works, could go off the air on June 30, 2026 – the result of a decision by WNET to cut ties with the station. Sources familiar with the situation said WNET has informed NJ PBS that it will not renew the station’s contract when it expires. The announcement was not unexpected. In June, the state cut funding for the station from $1 million to $250,000.That came after the federal government canceled funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, leaving many stations, like WNET, scrambling to rebuild their funding. Powell signals that the Fed will move slowly on interest rate cuts
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Tuesday signaled a cautious approach to future interest rate cuts, in sharp contrast with other Fed officials who have called for a more urgent approach. In remarks in Providence, R.I., Powell noted that there are risks to both of the Fed’s goals of seeking maximum employment and stable prices. But with the unemployment rate rising, he noted, the Fed agreed to cut its key rate last week. Yet he did not signal any further cuts on the horizon. (The Associated Press)
What to know about the H-1B visa that the Trump administration has targeted with $100,000 fees
The Trump administration’s decision to slap a $100,000 fee on H-1B visas has surprised and confused employers, students and workers from the U.S. to India and beyond. Since announcing the decision Friday, the White House has tried to reassure companies that the fee does not apply to existing visa holders and that their H-1B employees traveling abroad will not be stranded, unable to re-enter the U.S. without coming up with $100,000. The new policy took effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Sunday. Here is what it means. (The Associated Press)

What the candidates said about business in the gubernatorial debate
Sunday's town hall-style gubernatorial debate, the largest in-person debate in state history, gave voters a chance to hear the candidates spar on affordability, taxes and small-business issues. While business was not the central focus of the debate between Mikie Sherrill (D) and Jack Ciattarelli (R), several exchanges stood out for business owners. (ROI-NJ)

In their first debate, the two major party candidates for N.J. governor kept their focus on affordability and taxes. U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Republican former state Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli tussled over taxes and shared plans to drive down rising energy bills and improve educational outcomes for students. See video. NJ Transit purchases 260 new buses – a final step of fleet modernization
NJ Transit’s board continued its 'bus modernization program' by approving the purchase of 260 40-foot transit-style buses and 26 zero-emission buses. This is the final authorization required for NJ Transit to have a fully modernized bus and rail fleet by 2031. The new buses will provide customers with increased reliability while lowering operating and maintenance costs. The buses – replace aging 40-foot buses – will include USB charging ports, security cameras, blind-spot cameras and turn warning systems. (ROI-NJ)
NJ Labor Department makes $7M available for worker training
The state Labor Department announced the availability of $7 million in grants to employers for training employees. The competitively awarded grants will reimburse New Jersey employers for up to 50% of their training costs for frontline employees. (ROI-NJ)

Princeton University is named top college in U.S. News & World Report rankings for 15th consecutive year
Princeton University was ranked as the top university in the country for the 15th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report. How long has Princeton been No. 1? The last time another school took the top honor was 2011, when Harvard edged Princeton for the top spot. On that day, Barack Obama was president (in his first term) and Chris Christie was governor of New Jersey (in his first term). (BINJE)
New Jersey places total of six schools in Top 100 of U.S. News rankings
The six New Jersey universities in the Top 100 of the U.S. News & World Report national rankings are Princeton, Rutgers-New Brunswick, Rutgers-Newark, Stevens, NJIT and Rutgers-Camden. Four other schools made the Top 200: Montclair State, Seton Hall, Stockton and Rowan. Meanwhile New Jersey landed 15 schools in in the magazine's Top 100 Regional Schools, with the The College of New Jersey ranking No. 4. (BINJE)
Draft Day 2025: Hackensack Meridian Health to hold hiring event at MetLife Stadium to fill 2,800 positions
Hackensack Meridian Health will hold a hiring event at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to fill almost 2,800 positions. Hackensack Meridian Health calls the event "Draft Day 2025" and it's an opportunity for prospective employees to connect with recruiters and hiring managers from the organization’s network of 18 hospitals and 500 patient care locations across New Jersey. NJ Sharing Network unites leaders to boost organ donation and transplantation
The NJ Sharing Network, the nonprofit organization responsible for organ and tissue donation in New Jersey, hosted a Transplant Growth Collaboration meeting to address challenges and drive innovation in the field of organ donation. It brought together leaders from all six of N.J.’s transplant centers, as well as other regional hospitals and transplant centers. This makes N.J. the first state to host such a comprehensive series of meetings, making it a leader in advancing organ donation and transplantation. (BINJE)
