Op-Ed: Jersey-centric content on NJ PBS knits state together, creates more informed citizenry

Scott Koble, the chair of NJ PBS, expresses that the deepening and continuing effects of the broad-brush federal defunding and shutdown of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, along with a sharply cut New Jersey state appropriation for operating expenses correcting diseconomies, are becoming clearer, as well as severely critical and worrisome. In-depth coverage of New Jersey is in jeopardy as well as an informed citizenry. (BINJE)

Rate filings show NJ health insurance plans are set to soar in 2026

Health insurers selling plans in New Jersey's Affordable Care Act market are proposing double-digit rate increases for 2026 because of rising health care costs and the expected end of federal subsidies, according to filings with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. The price hikes are the latest sign that health care inflation is returning to levels last seen before the Great Recession in 2008, forcing New Jersey residents to dig deeper to pay for health insurance. Here’s what NJ’s latest economic data indicates

New Jersey appears to be heading into the final stretch of summer with at least some momentum. For starters, total employment in New Jersey grew by 7,500 last month. The income tax, which is a primary source of revenue for state government’s annual budget, was among the top performers. However, collections from another major source of — the corporation business tax — were off by more than 20% during July compared to the same month last year. That year-over-year decline in the monthly CBT collections came because of refunds exceeding growth in estimated payments. (NJ Spotlight News)
